Eagles sign Kevin CurtisAfter losing a major target for quarterback Donovan McNabb, the Philadelphia Eagles added a burner to their receiving stable. The Eagles on Thursday signed free agent wide receiver Kevin Curtis to a six-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed. The 5-11, 186-pound Curtis is a possible replacement for Donte Stallworth, who signed with the New England Patriots on Tuesday for a reported $30 million over six years. Stallworth caught 38 passes for 725 yards and five TDs for Philadelphia last season. “Kevin’s a guy that we’ve liked all along,” Eagles general manager Tom Heckert said. “He’s got great speed and run-after-the-catch ability. Kevin’s a calm, smart guy that goes out and plays football. He definitely brings tremendous speed to our team.” Curtis, 28, caught 40 passes for 479 yards and four touchdowns in 2006 for the St. Louis Rams. A 2003 third-round pick of the Rams, Curtis has appeared in 51 games, hauling in 136 passes for 1,714 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Seahawks release DE WistromThe Seattle Seahawks released fiery defensive end Grant Wistrom on Thursday after three years of struggling to match the big contract he signed in 2004. Wistrom was scheduled to make $3.5 million for the 2007 season, part of a six-year, $33 million deal Wistrom signed during the 2004 offseason. His contract included a then-club-record $14 million in guaranteed money, but Wistrom never posted big numbers with the Seahawks. Calls to his agent, Tom Condon, were not immediately returned. Wistrom’s release comes a day after the team formally introduced new defensive end Patrick Kerney, who signed a six-year, $39.5 million contract. Coach Mike Holmgren said Kerney wasn’t acquired to be “standing next to me on the sidelines.”

Porter in DolphinsJoey Porter wore a new Miami Dolphins visor, plus had an aqua-and-orange pin on his shirt. Clearly, the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker is already trying to fit in with his new team. Porter passed his physical and signed a five-year, $32 million contract Wednesday with the Dolphins, making the former Pittsburgh star the first marquee name to join the club during the free-agent period. “I came here to Miami to help this team get to a championship,” said Porter, who helped the Steelers win the Super Bowl two seasons ago. “I felt this would be a good situation for me, so it didn’t take a lot of convincing.” New Dolphins coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller flew to California on Monday to see Porter at his home, and their sales pitch worked. Porter — whom the Steelers released last week in a salary-cap move — agreed late that night to a deal, one that guarantees him $20 million.

Jets sign sign DE Coleman, re-sign DE HamiltonThe New York Jets added depth at defensive end Tuesday, signing free agent Kenyon Coleman and re-signing Bobby Hamilton. Financial terms of both deals were not disclosed. Coleman, 27, spent his previous four seasons with Dallas. The 6-5, 295-pounder recorded 31 tackles and a career-high four sacks while playing all 16 games last season. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to play for coach (Eric) Mangini and help the team in any way I can,” Coleman said. Originally a 2002 second-round pick of Oakland, Coleman has 68 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks in 57 career games. “Kenyon Coleman is a physical defensive lineman and we like his size and strength up front,” Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. “He has experience playing the 3-4 defense, and we’re looking forward to him being a part of our organization.” A 13-year veteran, Hamilton, 35, rejoins the Jets just five days after he was released. He recorded 30 tackles as a backup last season.

The Atlanta Falcons kept up their offseason purge Monday, releasing offensive guard Matt Lehr. The Atlanta Falcons kept up their offseason purge Monday, releasing offensive guard Matt Lehr. Lehr started 26 games at left guard in two years with the Falcons. He served a four-game suspension this past season for a violation of the NFL’s steroids policy. The 6-foot-2, 304-pound Lehr was part of an offensive line that relied heavily on zone blocking schemes to create holes for the league’s most productive running game. But new coach Bobby Petrino has made it clear he wants a bulkier line and better protection for quarterback Michael Vick. The Falcons also released tight end Gavin Tarquinio, who was on injured reserve during his rookie season with a shoulder injury. He played at Georgia Tech and signed with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent.
